Who Is Sofia Camara? Rising Pop Star Announces New EP Hard To Love

If you’ve been on TikTok, at a festival, or scrolling Spotify playlists this past year, chances are Sofia Camara has already brushed past your radar. The Portuguese-Canadian singer-songwriter has built a following of millions with her mix of soulful ballads and glossy pop, the kind of songs that feel like they were written for your most vulnerable late-night thoughts.

Now she’s stepping into her boldest era yet with her new EP Hard To Love, due October 10 via Polydor Records, featuring the singles “Parking Lot” and “Girls Like You.” It follows her March 2025 debut project Was I(t) Worth It?, which first introduced her as one of pop’s most promising new voices. Across both EPs, Sofia has co-written every track, working alongside writers and producers like Lowell, Nathan Ferraro, Mike Wise, and Donny Bravo to create songs that balance sharp emotional honesty with chart-ready melodies.

Born on Terceira Island, Portugal, and raised in Toronto, Sofia began writing music at 13, performing in subway stations and posting covers of Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber online. Those clips went viral, setting her on the path toward her first record deal with Universal Music Canada in 2022. Her debut single “Never Be Yours” broke into the Canadian Top 40, but it was 2024’s “Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent)” that changed everything, racking up over 44 million streams and landing on Spotify’s Viral 50 in multiple countries. To date, she’s amassed more than 100 million global streams across her catalogue.

The viral moments have only been part of the story. Sofia has put in the work on stage, supporting acts like Shawn Desman, Alex Warren, and Dean Lewis, before headlining her own sold-out European shows. She’s delivered some massive live moments too: performing the Canadian national anthem at the Grey Cup, and reimagining Nickelback’s “What Are You Waiting For?” as the official track for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships. Most recently, she’s stepped onto festival stages at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Osheaga in Montréal, cementing her arrival as a true live performer.

This autumn, she’ll bring Hard To Love to UK audiences with four headline dates, including Manchester Gorilla on October 13 and London Electric Brixton on October 15, before joining Bastille on their From All Sides arena tour in November. That run includes a night at London’s O2 Arena on November 18, a huge moment for an artist who only a few years ago was singing to strangers in subway stations.

What sets Sofia apart isn’t just her voice, though it’s rich and instantly recognisable, or her songwriting, though it’s tender without ever being soft. It’s her ability to reimagine and interpret music in a way that feels fresh, almost like you’re hearing it for the first time again. It’s this gift that’s earned her recognition from artists like Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Tate McRae, and Gracie Abrams. And it’s what makes her second EP such an exciting prospect, a collection of songs that carry her story forward while giving listeners space to see themselves in it.

From viral covers to sold-out shows, from subway stations to festival stages, Sofia Camara has been steadily proving she’s more than just another rising voice in pop. With Hard To Love, she isn’t asking for space at the table anymore, she’s taking it.
