8TH WONDER festival unveils stellar lineup for inaugural celebration of Sound & Culture

B, Te Wehi, Sir Dave Dobbyn, Corella plus many more to Rotorua and Brisbane.

A brand-new boutique festival experience is set to ignite the summer calendar as 8TH WONDER makes its highly anticipated debut in January 2027. Spearheaded by the renowned event team at Loop, the one-day celebration of music, culture, and community has confirmed an extraordinary, cross-generational lineup of talent spanning roots, reggae, soul, dub, and R&B.

The inaugural event will launch across two Pacific destinations: first taking over the stunning lakeside Village Green in the heart of Rotorua, New Zealand, before heading across the Tasman to the newly expanded 14-hectare Eatons Hill Outdoor Precinct in Brisbane, Australia.

Leading the charge for the debut instalment are chart-topping juggernauts L.A.B, who also serve as a foundation partner in the festival’s creation. The performance marks a highly anticipated return to the region for the group, marking their first Rotorua show in nearly seven years. They are joined at the top of the bill by the legendary Sir Dave Dobbyn and the fast-rising Te Wehi, who enters the summer circuit fresh off a stellar run as the recipient of the Aotearoa Music Award for Breakthrough Artist.

L.A.B perform at The Bowl of Brooklands, New Plymouth.

The meticulously curated all-ages bill seamlessly bridges foundational icons with the vanguard of contemporary Indigenous music. The star-studded roster features two-time New Zealand Music Hall of Fame inductee Che Fu alongside his band The Kratez, celebrating a quarter-century of his landmark album The Navigator. Ardijah’s iconic voice, Betty-Anne, will showcase material from her deeply personal debut solo record Slow Burn, while powerhouse vocalists Aaradhna and Ladi6 bring their globally revered brands of South Pacific soul to the stage.

The live billing is rounded out by local fan-favourites Corrella—currently working on their third studio album following the record-breaking success of ‘Blue Eyed Māori’—and rising legacy act Son & Water, which pairs Katchafire co-founder Jamey Ferguson with his son, Diamond Porima-Ferguson. Representing the international sound landscape, Boston-based alternative roots outfit The Elovaters will make their second-ever journey down under, hot off the success of their globally acclaimed record Shark Belly Motel.

Beyond the main stage, the festival organisers are collaborating with Little Big Events and Lucky Star to transform the Lake Rotorua boardwalk into a bustling cultural hub, showcasing a premium selection of food vendors and artisanal stallholders from across the Bay of Plenty. Supported directly by RotoruaNZ, the gathering aims to actively champion te ao Māori and highlight the unique bilingual identity of the region.

Tickets for the landmark summer events will officially go on sale this week.
