While the world may have first fallen in love with SIX60 in bustling stadiums, the band is going back to where it all began—grassroots. This April and May, New Zealand’s most decorated band is swapping mega-venues for intimate local stages in small towns across Aotearoa. It’s a rare and unmissable chance to see the band stripped back, acoustic, and up close.
Kicking off at lead singer Matiu Walters’ marae, Pōtahi Marae in Te Kao, the Grassroots Tour will feature 23 unique performances in beloved small-town venues. Think Piha Surf Club, Waimate’s Regent Theatre, and Stewart Island’s Community Centre—venues where the audience will feel like they’re part of the band’s inner circle.
The tour isn’t just about smaller venues; it’s about reimagining the hits that made them stadium icons. Fans will hear acoustic versions of classics like Don’t Forget Your Roots and Forever, rearranged to fit the intimate vibe. To top it off, each show will be recorded to compile a new Best Of album, meaning every audience becomes a piece of SIX60 history.
For SIX60, this tour is a heartfelt nod to their roots. It echoes the sentiment of Kia Mau Ki Tō Ūkaipō / Don’t Forget Your Roots, their anthem about staying grounded while reaching for greatness. As bassist Chris Mac put it, “If we were ever going to record acoustic versions of our songs, we wanted to do it with our fans—the people who made these hits what they are.”
Adding to the magic, opening each show is Makayla, a rising star discovered on TikTok after her stunning cover of Pepeha. Mentored by SIX60 themselves, Makayla is the latest talent to join their record label, MASSIVE, and promises to bring an exciting energy to kick off each evening.
