Garbage Announce First Aus/NZ Headline Tour in Nearly a Decade

Garbage are finally coming back, and it’s been a long time coming. The iconic alt-rock group have just announced a string of Australian and New Zealand headline shows this December, marking their first return since 2016 and their first appearance in Auckland in over a decade.

The tour kicks off on 3 December in Auckland and wraps with a show-stopping finale at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on 14 December, with stops in Melbourne and Adelaide along the way. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 22 October at 1pm local time, with Frontier Members presale starting Tuesday 21 October at 10am via frontiertouring.com/garbage.

The tour celebrates the band’s critically acclaimed eighth studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, released in May this year. They’ve already hit the road hard in North America since September, and will be wrapping up that run in LA next month before heading to Mexico, and finally back to the southern hemisphere.

Frontwoman Shirley Manson says the return is deeply personal:

“To be able to return to sacred, stunning New Zealand and to Australia – the home country of our most beloved music business guru, Michael Gudinski – is an immense thrill for us as a band. We have been aching to return… and this tour will be played every night in Gudinski’s honour.”

Expect a mix of nostalgic classics and thunderous new material, all delivered with the same fierce energy that’s kept Garbage at the forefront of alt-rock for nearly 30 years.

The band’s new single, “There’s No Future In Optimism,” continues their legacy of tackling heavy themes with emotional clarity. Manson says the album is “tender, thrilling” and a reflection on life’s fragility:

“Our flaws and our failures are still beautiful, even though we’re taught that they’re not.”

If you’ve ever lost yourself in Only Happy When It Rains, Stupid Girl, or I Think I’m Paranoid, this is your chance to see them live in some of the most iconic venues on offer.
