Maxïmo Park Celebrate 20 Years of A Certain Trigger With Deluxe Reissue and 2026 UK Tour

Maxïmo Park’s A Certain Trigger turning 20 feels less like a nostalgic milestone and more like a reminder of just how immediate this record still sounds. Twenty years on, it’s fizzing with restless momentum and razor-sharp intent, soundtracking first nights out, bad decisions and brilliant ones too. The band are marking the anniversary properly, with a deluxe reissue that feels carefully considered rather than purely celebratory.

Out now, the 20th anniversary edition arrives across multiple formats, from a single LP to an expansive triple vinyl collection aimed squarely at long-term fans. Alongside the original album, the double and triple vinyl editions include Missing Songs, featuring ‘A19’, ‘Isolation’ and ‘My Life in Reverse’. The triple vinyl digs even deeper, adding a third disc of Rarities & B-Sides, including ‘Wasteland’, early demos like ‘Limassol (First Avenue demo)’ and ‘The Coast Is Always Changing (Dilston Road demo)’, plus a BBC Radio 2 Janice Long session of ‘Kiss You Better’. These rarities are also available on a dedicated CD, finally giving some of the band’s most sought-after tracks a proper home.

Produced by Paul Epworth and released on Warp, the album landed just as the UK indie scene was about to become overcrowded with copy-and-paste guitar bands. Maxïmo Park felt different. They were sharper, more articulate, driven by pop instincts but underpinned by punk urgency and literary precision. Even their signing to Warp, then better known for electronic and experimental releases, suggested a band with wider ambitions than the scene they were often grouped into.

The album’s singles remain foundational. ‘Apply Some Pressure’, ‘Graffiti’ and ‘Going Missing’ still light up dancefloors, their clipped rhythms and emotional directness losing none of their impact over time. But the album’s longevity comes from its consistency rather than its peaks. Track for track, it captures motion, ambition and self-awareness without ever tipping into indulgence.

The anniversary celebrations continue on stage throughout February 2026, with Maxïmo Park performing songs from A Certain Trigger alongside their greatest hits across the UK. Highlights include a return to London’s O2 Academy Brixton, a venue deeply tied to the band’s early success, before the tour culminates with two hometown shows at Newcastle’s O2 City Hall. One of those dates has already sold out, a clear sign that this record’s connection with its audience hasn’t faded.

Twenty years on, A Certain Trigger doesn’t feel like a relic of mid-00s indie. It feels like a benchmark, a debut that captured a moment perfectly while still speaking clearly to the present.
