Leeds Festival 2018 Day 1: Highlights, Performances, and Top Acts

The first day of Leeds Festival 2018 kicked off with an impressive lineup, defying early criticism of the event’s shift in musical style. Despite the mixed initial reactions, thousands of festival-goers braved the unpredictable English weather to set up camp for an unforgettable weekend of music. Here are the standout performances from Friday:

BBC Introducing Stage

Sports Team

The Harlesden-based six-piece, Sports Team, brought their eclectic sound to the BBC Introducing Stage. With cheeky grins and undeniable energy, they proved why their debut EP Winter Nets made waves earlier this year. Sports Team’s set gathered a large crowd and has fans excited for their upcoming tour with Hinds.

Household Dogs

Leeds’ own Household Dogs hit the BBC Introducing Stage with a captivating set, showing why they’re a local band to watch. Their rock-infused sound, led by frontman Patrick’s impressive vocals, resonated with the audience. “Fallen Yet” was a particular crowd favorite, marking them as rising stars.

Festival Republic Stage

Hinds

Madrid-based all-female band Hinds electrified the Festival Republic Stage with a high-energy set. Playing tracks from their debut album Leave Me Alone and their recent release I Don’t Run, their infectious harmonies and indie rock sound made for an unforgettable performance.

Tom Grennan

Tom Grennan headlined the Festival Republic Stage, continuing his streak of performances at nearly every major UK festival. Even with Kings of Leon headlining at the same time, Grennan drew an impressive crowd. Hits like “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like You” and “Something in the Water” had the audience singing along, despite his set being cut short by a few songs.

The Pit/Lockup

Hollywood Undead

Hollywood Undead delivered an intense and energetic performance at The Pit/Lockup Stage. The American band had the crowd in a frenzy, especially during their song “Riot,” which sparked a massive mosh pit. Their stage presence and signature style were on full display as they played tracks from across their discography, including their latest album, Five (V).

Scarlxrd

Rapper Scarlxrd gave a standout performance, firing up the crowd with his unique blend of trap music and heavy metal. Marius Listhrop proved he was born for the stage, with his electrifying presence and the ability to get the crowd involved in mosh pits and circle pits.

Main Stage

The Vaccines

The Vaccines delivered an energetic set on the main stage, performing hits that spanned their career. Their new track “Let’s Jump off the Roof” was a hit with the crowd, showcasing why the award-winning indie rock band continues to thrive in festival settings.

Kings of Leon

Headlining Friday night, Kings of Leon reminded everyone why they’ve been a dominant force in rock music for nearly two decades. Performing hits like “Use Somebody” and “Beautiful War,” the band captivated the crowd. With a new album on the horizon, they were the perfect choice to close out Day 1.
