LANY Announce Sixth Album ‘Soft’ — A Return to Their Core Sound

”That one sentence is already setting the tone for what’s to come — a more emotionally direct, synth-laced return to form.

LANY are back — and according to them, it’s time to start acting like LANY again. The LA-based duo have just announced their sixth studio album, Soft, which lands on October 10, 2025. The 10-track album follows their 2023 release A Beautiful Blur, and kicks off with the new single “know you naked”, arriving Friday, August 1.

The band teased their comeback with a simple but loaded Instagram caption: “It’s time to start acting like LANY again.”That one sentence is already setting the tone for what’s to come — a more emotionally direct, synth-laced return to form.

Who Are LANY?

Formed in 2014, LANY (short for Los Angeles New York) started as a lowkey project between Paul Klein, Jake Goss, and former member Les Priest. The trio first gained traction with atmospheric pop gems uploaded to SoundCloud — tracks like “ILYSB” and “Walk Away” that went viral for their dreamy production and late-night lyricism.

Their breakthrough self-titled debut album arrived in 2017, featuring hits like “Super Far” and “13”, solidifying their status as one of the most emotionally available bands in alt-pop. Since then, they’ve released five studio albums:

  • LANY (2017)
  • Malibu Nights (2018) — the heartbreak album that took them global
  • Mama’s Boy (2020) — Americana-influenced and experimental
  • gg bb xx (2021) — short, sweet, and pop-forward
  • A Beautiful Blur (2023) — expansive, alt-rock leaning, and moody
  • Now: Soft (2025) — a reset of sorts

With over 3 billion streams and a cult following around the world, LANY have built a career on writing music that feels deeply personal — even when it’s drenched in pop polish.

What to Expect From Soft

The new album is made up of 10 tracks, with the first single “know you naked” leading the release. The band also revealed the cover art: frontman Paul Klein holding a lamb across his chest — a quiet, almost biblical image that hints at vulnerability and rebirth.

Tracklist:

  1. soft
  2. why
  3. know you naked
  4. stuck
  5. sound of rain
  6. act my age
  7. good parts
  8. make me forget
  9. destiny
  10. last forever

There’s no word yet on features or producers, but based on early teasers and the band’s own statements, fans can expect a more stripped-back sound that focuses on what LANY do best: emotionally raw lyrics, polished synths, and melodies that sit somewhere between sad and euphoric.

Back to a Duo, Back to Basics

While LANY originally began as a trio, they’ve continued on as a two-piece since 2022, with Paul Klein (vocals, keys, guitar) and Jake Goss (drums) leading the charge.

That shift marked a turning point in their sound and identity. A Beautiful Blur explored darker, rockier textures, but Soft feels like a pivot back to their earlier DNA. In other words: it’s the LANY you fell in love with in 2018, but more mature and self-aware.

Want to See How Far They’ve Come?

Before Malibu Nights, before headlining arenas, before they were selling out tours worldwide — LANY were three mates making dreamy bedroom pop. You can watch our old interview with LANY here, back when they were a three-piece, to see just how much the band has evolved.

Pre-Save Soft

LANY’s new era officially kicks off with “know you naked” on August 1, followed by the full album drop on October 10. Fans can pre-save the album here to be the first to stream it.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or just discovering their catalogue, Soft promises to be a meaningful reset — honest, nostalgic, and full of all the feelings that made LANY one of the most beloved bands in alt-pop.
