Ed Sheeran on track to sign with Interscope Records, reuniting with CEO John Janick

Pop superpower Ed Sheeran is reportedly set to sign a new global recording deal with Interscope Records, concluding a historic 15-year run at Warner Music Group and reuniting with executive John Janick for his next creative chapter.

In what marks one of the most anticipated label migrations of the streaming era, global superstar Ed Sheeran is close to finalising a new recording contract with Interscope Records under the Universal Music Group (UMG) umbrella. According to industry reports, the move is set to reunite the singer-songwriter with Interscope Capitol Labs Group Chairman and CEO John Janick, who worked closely with Sheeran during his formative years at Warner Music Group’s Elektra Records in the early 2010s.

The pending deal follows Sheeran’s departure from Warner Music Group this past May, concluding a highly successful 15-year partnership. Over his tenure with WMG—primarily via Atlantic and Asylum Records in the UK—Sheeran evolved from an acoustic circuit hopeful into a stadium-filling titan, delivering monumental global hits like ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Perfect’ across a prolific run of eight studio albums.

Industry sources indicate that the transition will cleanly separate Sheeran’s historic output from his upcoming creative era. Moving forward, all new solo recorded material from Sheeran is expected to be released and marketed globally via Interscope, placing him alongside a frontline roster that includes Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and Kendrick Lamar. Meanwhile, Warner Music Group will retain ownership and long-term stewardship of Sheeran’s extensive back catalogue, which boasts over 170 million albums sold worldwide. Warner is also expected to continue holding the long-term licences for Sheeran’s two most recent full-length studio projects, 2023’s Autumn Variations and his late-2025 follow-up album Play, both of which were issued through his personal imprint, Gingerbread Man Records.

The executive synergy between Sheeran and Janick is widely recognised as a primary catalyst for the pending move. During Janick’s executive run at Elektra Records before taking the helm at Interscope, he oversaw the domestic development of international breakthrough acts, building a strong creative shorthand with Sheeran during the formative stages of his global career.

Despite the shift in his label home, Sheeran’s core operational infrastructure remains entirely intact. The singer will continue to be managed globally by Stuart Camp at Grumpy Old Management, with live touring strategy remaining under the direction of booking agency One Fiinix Live.

The reported Interscope transition lands amid a highly active live and commercial cycle for the musician. Sheeran is currently in the midst of his extensive global Loop Tour, spanning major stadium dates across North America, Latin America, and Oceania, while simultaneously expanding his business portfolio with the launch of a signature line of music amplifiers.
