Auckland singer-songwriter Paige has released ‘Hypocrite’, a playful, self-aware new single and her first as a fully independent artist. It marks a shift in sound too: a deliberate lean into R&B, layered over the soulful vocals and pop sensibility she’s built her name on.
Paige wrote the track as a statement of intent.
‘I wrote “Hypocrite” as an introduction to the new R&B/Pop era I’m entering,’ she says. ‘The concept was inspired by the idea that not all of us are perfect humans, owning that reality, and leaning into the fun of that. Sonically, it could be compared to artists like Ariana Grande or Kehlani.’
The track came out of a session at APRA SongHubs with Joel Jones, Mi-kaisha and Shungudzo, songwriters whose credits span Little Mix, The Chainsmokers, Kylie Minogue and Victoria Monét.
It’s a big swing for an artist who’s already built a genuinely international footprint: more than 70 million streams worldwide, a Platinum certification in South Korea, Gold in New Zealand, four Aotearoa Music Award nominations, and a 130,000-strong online following. She’s sold out headline shows across New Zealand, Australia and South Korea, played festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Bay Dreams, Homegrown and Soundsplash, and supported George Ezra, Ruel, Alec Benjamin, Holly Humberstone, G Flip and Nina Nesbitt.
