The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers has officially confirmed his return to solo duties with the announcement of Thrasher, his first individual full-length record in 11 years. Set for release on 21 August 2026 via Island Records, the project marks a significant stylistic pivot for the indie-rock icon, trading out his signature synthesizer glitz for a rich, deeply personal dive into traditional American country-western music. The album’s expansive, pedal-steel-drenched lead single, ‘Plans’, is out today alongside a fresh trailer for the project. In tandem with the new music, Flowers has also mapped out a major headline tour across North America, the UK, and Ireland this autumn, including a special stop at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall.

Recorded at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, Thrasher  finds Flowers collaborating once again with longtime production partners Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado. Rather than relying on modern programming, the team drafted an elite lineup of veteran Music City players to establish an organic, lived-in foundation. The record features guitar work from David Rawlings, sweeping instrumentation from prolific pedal steel player Bruce Bouton, and distinctive contributions from 85-year-old harmonica icon Charlie McCoy, famed for performing on Bob Dylan’s classic Nashville LPs.

The country-western framing pulls directly from Flowers’ formative teenage years spent in the rural town of Nephi, Utah, driving through the desert alongside his father while listening to Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Across the 10-track playlist, Flowers utilises Western storytelling tropes to reflect on his family history, detailing everything from ’80s shopping mall pageants on ‘Miss America’ to an emotional tribute to his late brother-in-law on ‘One Of Us’.

“The fact that I love new wave and rock and roll has been well-documented,” Flowers explains regarding the sonic shift. “But a life is long enough to allow for more. Walt Whitman said it best: ‘I am large, I contain multitudes.’ Well, I’m larger now than I was 20 years ago, and I’ve unlocked a room that feels like it’s been waiting for me all along: country-western music, my father’s music.”

Longtime fans of The Killers needn’t worry about the singer abandoning his stadium-rock day job permanently, however. Flowers clarified on social media:

“This is not me running away from rock and roll. I don’t want to replace my old songs. I simply found room for more.”
