British musician and former One Direction member, Liam Payne, has tragically passed away at age 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to local police reports.
The police confirmed Payne’s death, stating, “Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, and former member of One Direction, died today after a fall from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo.” The news was first reported by AFP.
According to La Nacion, the British singer was discovered by emergency services following the fall at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel around 5pm on Wednesday. Witnesses told local media that Payne had fallen from his hotel room earlier that evening.
Liam Payne shares a son, Bear Grey, with former partner Cheryl Cole. The couple welcomed their child in 2017.
As a founding member of the global sensation One Direction, Payne rose to fame in 2010 after competing on the reality show X Factor. The band—comprising Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan—announced their breakup in 2016.
In 2023, Payne revealed his personal struggles after the band’s split, admitting he was in “bad shape” the previous year. He spent 100 days at a wellness clinic in Louisiana to recover.
