Chloe Star shares explosive, trap-infused alternative rock single ‘walking on the sun’

Chloe Star has returned with her most volatile track yet, weaving together heavy trap percussion and gritty alternative rock on her new single 'walking on the sun'.

Los Angeles alt-pop disruptor Chloe Star has returned with her most volatile and urgent offering yet, dropping her brand new single ‘walking on the sun’ today via Chloe Star Records.

The new track sees the 28-year-old Persian and Indigenous singer-songwriter, visual artist, and tribal advocate trade standard pop conventions for a darker, genre-blurring cocktail of sounds. Heavily blending trap percussion with gritty, overdriven guitar work, the single builds immense tension before exploding into an anthemic, alt-rock hook. Star’s fierce vocal delivery places the track squarely in the conversation with contemporary heavyweights like Julia Wolf, Machine Gun Kelly, and Sleep Token.

Underneath the track’s massive, cinematic production lies a searing, deeply personal critique of systemic corruption within American healthcare systems.

“This song is about the corruption I’ve seen in the treatment and rehab industry, where profit often seems to matter more than genuinely helping people recover,” Star shared openly regarding the release. “I’ve been through facilities that made me feel like they were more interested in keeping me sick so I would keep coming back. Fortunately, I was later blessed to find an incredible rehab centre that truly cared about its clients and wanted them to get better. That experience changed my life, and it was the last rehab centre I ever attended.”

Raised between her family’s reservation in San Bernardino and the chaotic creative hubs of LA, Star has spent the three years since her 2023 debut single ‘Element’ building a fierce reputation for unfiltered, raw authenticity. Her distinct sonic blueprint draws from a disparate lineage of musical rebels, nodding to the grunge grit of Nirvana, the soulful defiance of Amy Winehouse, the theatrical rock of Janis Joplin, and the modern genre-mashing of YUNGBLUD.

The breakout talent has spent the last year collecting major praise, including a coveted spot in major best new music roundups for her track ‘Bad Habit’. Having already made a massive impact on live stages across the US and UK (including landmark performances at London Pride, New York Pride Festival, Chicago’s Back Lot Bash, and The Dinah in California), Star has cemented her place as a potent, essential queer voice in the modern alternative space.

With ‘walking on the sun’ available on all streaming platforms today, the fast-rising artist continues to expand her palette while keeping a direct, emotionally transparent approach firmly at the centre of her universe.
