If you’re not already across Far Caspian, consider this your official cue to plug in and press play. The Irish-born, Leeds-based multi-instrumentalist (real name Joel Johnston) has quietly carved out a loyal following with his dreamy indie sound, DIY ethos, and introspective lyrics that hit right in the feels. And with a brand-new album dropping in July and a massive international tour on the cards, 2025 is shaping up to be his year.

Who Is Far Caspian?

Far Caspian is a solo project in disguise. Joel writes, records, mixes, and produces everything himself—usually from the comfort of his own home studio. His earlier tracks leaned into woozy bedroom pop (think Between Days and The Heights), but he’s since evolved into something deeper—more guitar-driven, more personal, and somehow even more hypnotic.

It’s the kind of music that makes you nostalgic for moments that haven’t even happened yet.

His Sound: Intimate, Lo-Fi and Emotionally Charged

Whether it’s the floaty melancholia of Ways To Get Out (his 2021 debut) or the cinematic textures of 2023’s The Last Remaining Light, Far Caspian’s music is a masterclass in slow-burning emotional storytelling. Think Big Thief meets Dayglow with a touch of early Death Cab for Cutie.

His upcoming album, Autofiction, drops 25 July 2025, and it’s already giving us all the signs of an indie classic in the making. It’s being released via his own label, Tiny Library Records, which makes it all the more deliciously DIY.

New Singles You Need in Your Life

Let’s talk recent releases. The two singles from Autofiction are giving fans a clear taste of what’s to come:

  • “First Day” – A tender love song that unpacks the support we give each other through the rough patches. It’s heart-on-sleeve stuff with a lo-fi shimmer.
  • “An Outstretched Hand / Rain From Here To Kerry” – A nostalgic, cinematic track that feels like the end credits of a film you never want to stop watching.

Both are rich in emotional depth, filled with the kind of lyrics you’ll want to scribble in the margins of your journal.

Why You Should Be Paying Attention

In a sea of overproduced pop and manufactured trends, Far Caspian feels refreshingly real. His music isn’t trying to be anything it’s not, and that’s exactly why it hits so hard. Whether you’re new to the indie scene or knee-deep in playlists full of sad bops, Joel’s got something for you.

Plus, if you’re into artists who create their own worlds (sonically and visually), Far Caspian’s your guy.
