Friendly Fires have confirmed their first album in six years, announcing Dig Deeper for release on 15 January 2027 via LAB Records alongside a new single, ‘Magnetic’. It’s the band’s fourth studio record, and the first since 2019’s Inflorescent.
The eleven-track album pulls from the sounds that made the band’s name. Talking Heads, New Order, Madchester and Balearic beat all get a nod, filtered through a nu-rave energy that still sounds like them and no one else. Core duo Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson have spent close to a decade shaping the material, and Macfarlane says it shows: ‘This is some of the best music we’ve written. Doing something truly honest, putting it out there and hoping it connects with people – that feels like a huge leap of faith for us.’
‘Magnetic’, the album’s fourth track, is about the pull of attraction and how little say we sometimes have in it. ‘Attraction is a force so strong it can be beyond our control,’ the band said of the single. ‘What we want and what we should do aren’t always the same.’ It follows ‘Lose All Your Friends’, released back in August and now confirmed as the album’s opening track.

Fans who don’t want to wait until January can catch the band far sooner: Friendly Fires play an intimate show at London’s Moth Club on 24 September, their first UK date in some time and a rare chance to hear the new material live before the record’s out properly. Gibson put the band’s longevity down to something simple: ‘Our friendship has been led by the fact we’re in a band together.’
