José González Manchester 2027: The Most Intimate Big Show You’ll See All Year

The Swedish singer-songwriter brings his new album and two decades of catalogue to New Century on 29th January 2027.

There are artists who fill a room and artists who hold it. José González is firmly in the second camp. With nothing more than a voice and a guitar, he has spent over two decades creating concert experiences that feel simultaneously intimate and enormous — intricate rhythms and dynamic shifts that somehow fill every corner of a space without ever losing the sense that he’s playing just for you. If you’ve seen him before, you already know. If you haven’t, Manchester’s New Century on 29th January 2027 is as good a place as any to start.

The show arrives on the back of Against The Dying Of The Light, his new album released in March this year, previewed by singles Pajarito and the title track. It’s a record that turns its gaze outward — reflecting on humanity, technology and the uncertain direction of the modern world — while remaining rooted in the melodic and rhythmic songwriting that has defined everything he’s done since his 2003 debut Veneer announced him as one of contemporary music’s most distinctive voices. Heartbeats, that record’s centrepiece, remains one of the most quietly devastating songs of the past twenty years.

The live set weaves the new material through highlights from across his catalogue, balancing introspection with rhythmic drive in the way only González can pull off. He has spent years selling out concert halls and theatres around the world, and the reputation is entirely deserved — these are performances where precision and warmth occupy the same space, where subtle detail carries the weight of something far larger.

Tickets go on sale Friday 24th April at 10am.
