Maribou State Are Bringing Soulful Electronica to Auckland for One Glorious Night Only

If you’ve ever needed an excuse to sway through a summer night drenched in silky electronica and soulful drops, here it is: Maribou State are heading to Tāmaki Makaurau, and they’re bringing vibes. The UK duo, known for wrapping deep house grooves in warm, woozy textures, are spinning a special DJ set at The Tuning Fork on 29 December, and it’s already feeling like the city’s low-key party of the season.

They will be fresh from a Hagley Park set that had Christchurch wrapped in a blanket of bass the night before, and just ahead of their Rhythm & Vines slot, this Auckland stop is a rare moment to see the pair in a more intimate zone. Think fewer festival bros, more sonic bliss. No pyro, no backup dancers, just Chris Davids and Liam Ivory at the decks, building their signature soundscapes with precision and heart.

For the uninitiated (or the simply curious), Maribou State have been crafting their own corner of electronic music since 2011. They’re not your average EDM export, there’s no drop-for-drop’s-sake energy here. Instead, they’re masters of layering: field recordings, dusty soul samples, even live instruments, all bent and stitched into something that manages to feel both global and gorgeously personal.

If you’ve caught their Glastonbury sets or lucky enough to witness their run of sold-out shows across Europe and North America, you’ll know that Maribou State don’t just play music, they curate a mood.

This one-off Auckland DJ set feels less like a stop on a tour and more like a gift. A chance to see artists at the top of their game, free from the expectations of a mainstage crowd.

Tickets drop Wednesday 10 December at 8AM via tuningfork.co.nz. Set your alarms.
