Sir Dave Dobbyn Brings Selected Songs Back to The Civic for One Night Only This July

The encore Auckland show lands on 25 July — and if the 2025 tour is anything to go by, tickets won't hang around.

Some shows leave a room wanting more. That’s clearly what happened when Sir Dave Dobbyn took his Selected Songs tour around Aotearoa last year — every date sold out, and the demand didn’t go anywhere. So here we are: one more night, one more chance, at The Civic in Auckland on Saturday 25 July.

It’s a fitting venue for an artist of his stature. Over more than 45 years as a recording artist, Sir Dave Dobbyn has done as much as anyone to shape what New Zealand music sounds like — anthems that have become part of the fabric of Kiwi life, alongside a deeper catalogue that rewards anyone willing to look beyond the obvious. A Selected Songs show is exactly what it sounds like: a journey through one of the country’s most storied songwriting legacies, chosen with care.

What makes his continued presence on stage all the more remarkable is the context. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2022, Dobbyn’s response was characteristically understated — “business as usual,” he said — and he has continued to perform with the same unmistakable voice and warmth that earned him a Knighthood in 2021 for his services to music. Watching him live carries a particular weight these days, and an appreciation that doesn’t need to be spelled out.
