James Arthur’s ‘Waste My Tears’ Is About Finally Being Kind to Yourself

James Arthur's new single 'Waste My Tears' is about learning to be kinder to yourself, and it's out now.

James Arthur has released his new single ‘Waste My Tears’, his first solo material since 2023’s PISCES and the opening statement of what he’s calling the next chapter of his career. The track had already been building momentum after being previewed during his recently completed, sold-out UK and Ireland arena tour.

Sharing the release with fans, Arthur wrote: ‘I’ve been working on this one for a little while, trying to get it to a place where I’m content with it. So, it’s a relief to finally let it run free into the world and to stop worrying about if it’s good enough.’ On what the song is actually about, he added: ‘Ironically, this song is all about learning to be less hard on yourself (something I need to work on). It’s about learning to like yourself again, letting go of what doesn’t serve you, and choosing to move forward as the most authentic version of you possible.’

He’s described it elsewhere as one of the more vulnerable pieces of writing he’s put his name to, and framed it as a step towards self-acceptance that doesn’t lean on outside validation. The official video, released alongside the single, features his daughter Emily. Closing out his message to fans, Arthur wrote: ‘Thank you for all the love, messages and support you’ve already given this song. I hope it heals you as much as it does me.’

‘Waste My Tears’ is out now.
