JessB has released her new album Matters of the Heart, a 12-track collection that traces the arc of love, loss, growth and connection. It’s her fourth full-length, following BLOOM (2018), New Views (2019) and Feels Like Home (2024).
The album is led by new single ‘Can I’, which Jess describes as a ‘lustful take on a new love interest.’ It sits alongside already-released tracks ‘Not Today’ and ‘See You There’, plus guest features from Paige on ‘First Class’ and Deva Mahal on ‘End-iversary’.
Jess has broken the album down track by track for fans, and it reads like a relationship’s full arc. ‘Mine’ asks a new love interest ‘one night, or a whole life?’; ‘Anxiety’ was written after a rock-bottom, post-breakup conversation with her best friend; ‘End-iversary’ marks the acceptance that a relationship is really over; and ‘FUBIMU’ (an acronym for ‘f* you but I miss you’) captures the pull between knowing you deserve better and missing the person who hurt you anyway. Closing track ‘Worth It’ lands on no regrets: ‘I’m walking my way, and you are walking yours, but it was still worth it.’

JessB has spent the past seven years building an international profile, sharing stages with Kehlani and Coldplay, recording with Sister Nancy and Sampa the Great, and headlining her own tours across Aotearoa, Australia, Asia, Europe and the UK. She played the ELLE & L’s Festival in Berlin in late August, and has shows coming up at Circus in Osaka (21 September), Circus x Circus Odaiba Festival in Tokyo (23 September) and AfroSoul Festival in Brisbane (11 October).
