Lewis Capaldi has a new song out, and he’s announced it in the most Lewis Capaldi way possible. ‘Stay Love’ — a stripped-back ballad produced by The Monsters & Strangerz and Michael Pollack — was performed live for the first time at his sold-out Madison Square Garden show on April 16, before being officially released as the fifth addition to his Survive EP. Accompanying the release was a characteristically self-deprecating caption: “hope you don’t hate this song as much as I hate watching myself lip syncing to it.”
The release also confirmed what a lot of people had already guessed. Over the past week, mystery vinyls began appearing in record stores across the UK and US — plain white sleeves, no artist name, no title, just a piano-led ballad with pitched-down vocals to disguise the singer. Fans immediately suspected Capaldi based on the vocal inflections and lyrics, and they were right. One of the mystery records even ended up on eBay for £2,500. The song is every bit as romantic as the speculation suggested — “Oh I pray love, that you’ll always be the one, and when the road gets rough, don’t give up on us, and this could stay love.”
It’s been quite a comeback. Capaldi returned in 2025 with ‘Survive’ — his sixth UK number one and the fastest-selling single of that year — followed by the Survive EP in November. Since then he’s appeared at BST Hyde Park, made a cameo in Taylor Swift’s ‘Opalite’ video, and is currently midway through a sold-out North American arena tour that includes two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl. Summer 2026 UK and Ireland outdoor headline shows include BST Hyde Park on July 11 and the inaugural Roundhay Festival in Leeds.
