Christchurch three-piece Luna and the Aether have confirmed an October tour of the country, giving fans in Dunedin, Wellington and Christchurch their first chance to hear songs from debut album Metanoia played live.
The band, made up of vocalist and guitarist Luna Cubillana (formerly of Just Another June), bassist Evan Oijordsbakken (Marsha, Retrospect) and drummer Dave Van Eerden (Old Haven, Lucid Shift, EnFire), formed in late 2025 and released Metanoia on 31 July 2026. The record leans into doomgaze and gothic folk, pairing heavy, shoegaze-style walls of guitar with more delicate, stripped-back moments across tracks such as ‘Magnolia’, ‘Haven’ and ‘Godsend’. Van Eerden produced the album himself, with Jack Lanham recording at Moonbase Record Collective and James Goldsmith handling the mix and master.
Thematically, the band have described Metanoia as a record about returning to yourself after a long stretch in the dark, touching on repentance, forgiveness and what they call an act of devotion.
The October dates bring a rotating cast of local support acts to each city. Ōtepoti (Dunedin) gets the tour under way on 16 October at Pearl Diver, with Filth Wizard and Motheaten opening. The band head to Pōneke (Wellington)’s MOON on 24 October, supported by Dead Queens, Abandoned Carparks and Serpent Dream, before wrapping up on home turf at A Rolling Stone in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) on 30 October, with No Broadcast, Steampunk Fish and Frogs rounding out the bill.
It is a solid next step for a band barely a year old: a debut album with real critical attention behind it, and now a run of shows built around the kind of scene-first bills that suggest Luna and the Aether are already thinking beyond their own city limits.
