There is something inherently spectacular about witnessing electronic dance anthems echoing off the walls of a medieval fortress. On Friday, June 12th, 2026, dance music royalty Pete Tong brought his legendary Ibiza Classics show to Lincoln Castle, turning the historic grounds into a sprawling, high-energy, open-air rave. Backed by the powerhouse layout of the Essential Orchestra, it was a night that masterfully bridged the gap between club culture and orchestral grandeur.
Getting the party started early on were the brilliant Horse Meat Disco. The DJ duo did an exceptional job of warming up the crowd, spinning a continuous stream of funky, infectious disco mixes. The castle grounds quickly filled with locals either letting loose at the front barrier or enjoying a more relaxed vibe on picnic blankets. The duo triggered some massive early singalongs, sending arms into the air with a heavy-bass mix of Whitney Houstonβs “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” a funky house version of “Ain’t Nobody,” and a muted chorus moment during Chaka Khan’s “Don’t You Want Me.” By the time they closed their set with ABBA’s “Lay All Your Love on Me,” the atmosphere was perfectly primed.

When Pete Tong took to the stage, he was positioned at the back, overseeing the entire spectacle from his decks like a sonic conductor as the full orchestra laid down the foundations. Opening with “Rhythm of the Night,” illuminated by a sea of blue lasers and powerhouse vocals from the front line of backing singers, the tone was instantly set. Pausing after the opening track, Tong beamed at the crowd, acknowledging the historic surroundings by declaring it a special moment to bring the show “home to the Magna Carta, now home to Ibiza Classics.”
What followed was a relentless, beautifully arranged sequence of club anthems. For “Zombie Nation,” Tong yelled out to “all you late-night ravers” to sing along, triggering a brilliant white, green, and blue light show that culminated in a roaring applause for an unexpected, entirely live tuba solo. The energy hit an absolute peak during Faithlessβs “Insomnia.” Under flashing green and white strobes, hundreds of phones flew into the air as the entire castle grounds bounced in unison to the iconic drop of “I can’t get no sleep,” wrapped in an incredible display of lasers and a massive hype-man moment from the stage.
The vocalists each had their well-deserved moments to shine. A singer named Paige took the lead for a soulful, red-lit performance of “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” before a male backing vocalist named Brandon stepped to the front for “You Don’t Know Me.” Dedicated by the band to “anyone who’s tired of being told how to live their lives,” the track bathed the crowd in warm orange light and generated massive energy. The momentum rolled straight into “Got No Money,” which saw the crowd clapping in perfect sync with the golden, yellow lights on stage.

Another undeniable highlight was Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman,” led by singer Alissa. The crowd went completely wild when the orchestral trumpet section took over the famous “la da dee, la da da” melody, with Tong shouting out to the crowd to “give it up for the horns, now it’s your time to shine.”
As the summer dusk finally gave way to total darkness, Tong asked the crowd, “Any ravers in the house?” before launching into the final, heaviest leg of the night. A soaring, angelic performance of Delerium’s “Silence” dropped into a heavy, driving beat that had every single arm in the air. That peak was immediately matched by a relentless performance of Darude’s “Sandstorm,” enveloped in a thick, green foggy haze that exploded into orange strobes as the rave hit its absolute climax.
Seamlessly transitioning into the iconic trance classic “CafΓ© del Mar,” Pete Tong commanded the entire historic courtyard one final time. “I said you’ve got to light it up, Lincoln!” he urged, as a sea of phone lights illuminated the ancient stone walls, bringing a truly unforgettable, euphoric evening to a spectacular close.
