Review: Stella Lefty’s Is This Heaven? Is the Debut You’ll Wish You’d Heard First

Six tracks. Just under sixteen minutes. And somehow, by the time it's done, you feel like you've known Stella Lefty for years.

We were early to Stella Lefty — we caught “I Know I Know” before most people knew her name — and listening to Is This Heaven? in full, that early instinct feels well and truly vindicated. There’s a particular feeling that comes with following an artist from the beginning and watching the pieces fall into place. This EP is that moment.

Is This Heaven? opens with “Something to Lose” alongside country star Vincent Mason, and it’s a perfect table-setter — tender, unhurried, the kind of song that asks nothing of you except that you sit with it for a moment. It eases you in rather than demanding your attention, which turns out to be exactly the right move.

“Why Wouldn’t We” shifts the mood without breaking it. Brighter, bouncier, built entirely for windows-down weather — it carries shades of early Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood but wears them lightly. Lefty has enough personality of her own that the comparisons feel like context rather than imitation.

“I Know I Know” is where things click into focus. We loved it when we first heard it and nothing has changed — it has a directness and emotional clarity that hits immediately, upbeat on the surface but with something more complicated running underneath. It’s the kind of song that sounds simple until you realise you’ve been singing it for three days without meaning to.

“Boston” needs little introduction at this point. What’s striking on a full EP listen is how naturally it sits alongside everything around it — it doesn’t feel like the obvious smash single dropped into a collection of filler, it feels like the logical peak of something that’s been building since track one. That’s a harder trick to pull off than it sounds.

“Slow Dancin'” is the EP’s hidden gem — barely two minutes long, light as air, and somehow the track that lingers longest after the record ends. And “Thinkin’ ’bout You” closes things out exactly as it should: warm, wistful and just bittersweet enough to make the whole thing feel complete.

What holds Is This Heaven?  together is a consistency of tone that a lot of debut projects simply don’t have. Lefty knows exactly what she wants to say and exactly how she wants to say it — nostalgic, emotionally open, occasionally heartbroken but never wallowing. It sounds like someone who has been writing songs their whole life and has finally found the right moment to share them.

Sixteen minutes is not long enough. But it’s enough to know that whatever comes next is going to be worth paying attention to. Remember the name.
