Strata Are Back With ‘Soar’ — and It’s the Sound of a Band With Something to Prove

The California rock veterans return with their first single for The Artery Foundation, and it's heavier, sharper and more focused than ever.

If you were paying attention to rock music in the mid-2000s, Strata need no introduction. The California band built a devoted following on soaring melodies, cinematic heaviness and emotionally raw songwriting — a sound that blurred post-hardcore intensity with atmospheric modern rock long before genre lines started dissolving across the scene. Their breakthrough came with ‘Piece by Piece’, which earned its RIAA gold certification after appearing on the 2004 The Punisher soundtrack and Madden NFL 2005, cementing them as one of that era’s most compelling rock acts.

Now they’re back, newly signed to The Artery Foundation, and new single ‘Soar’ is out now. Produced by Eric Ron — whose credits include Papa Roach and Bad Omens — the track does exactly what the title suggests, built on rising and falling tension and angular guitar work that feels both urgent and expansive. Frontman Eric Victorino’s voice remains one of the most distinctive in the genre, moving effortlessly between fragile intimacy and explosive power.

The song’s subject matter is darker than its sonic lift might suggest. “It captures the collapse of someone who once felt untouchable,” Victorino explains. “Tracing that fall from clarity and confidence into doubt, temptation, and self-betrayal. It’s a dark spiral where faith glitches, identity fractures, and the pull of the algorithm becomes impossible to ignore.” Equal parts confession and confrontation, it’s a song about not trusting yourself — and it lands.

This isn’t a nostalgia play. Strata aren’t revisiting who they were — they’re redefining who they are. The band has re-emerged sharper and more focused, channelling years of life experience into a sound that is by their own account stronger, faster and heavier than anything they’ve made before. Rather than chasing trends they’ve leaned into evolution, expanding their sonic palette while staying rooted in the emotional authenticity that first defined them. The Artery Foundation — the rebooted label that in its previous incarnation helped break A Day To Remember, Motionless In White, Dance Gavin Dance and Beartooth — is a fitting home.
