San Francisco-based alternative three-piece Wealthy Women have unveiled their powerful new single, ‘Shit Breaks’. The track serves as the fourth glimpse into their highly anticipated debut studio album, Children, which is set for release on 7 August 2026 via independent channels.

Produced by the acclaimed Scott Evans, renowned for his heavyweight work with the likes of Neurosis, SUMAC, and Autopsy, the album was recorded at Antisleep Audio in Oakland. While previous singles from the record have explicitly focused on global macro-politics, ‘Shit Breaks’ sees the band shifting their lens inward to deliver a haunting, deeply personal examination of domestic violence.

Lyrically, the song stems from a formative, real-life encounter with a survivor’s disclosure of spousal abuse. “This song is about the first time someone shared their experience of partner abuse with me,” explains chief songwriter and vocalist Peter Sisk. “It was a wake-up call for me at the time since I was lucky enough to grow up without exposure to violence against women. It’s devastating that these things happen every day, and it’s enraging that it is minimised and/or ignored by society.”

Sisk continues, aiming a sharp critique at modern online culture: “One of the more odious features of the ascendant Masculinists among us is their wilful blindness to the everyday experience of women. I don’t know if it’s another gift of the algorithmic age or if people have always been so quick to dismiss an experience they themselves have not had, but every woman clutching their car keys in an empty car park understands.”

Musically, ‘Shit Breaks’ mirrors its bleak subject matter, leaning heavily on a brooding, downtuned guitar arrangement that captures the underlying darkness of its theme.

The single anchors a debut album heavily shaped by the sociopolitical climate of the past year. Composed largely in the wake of the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, Children unpicks systemic crises ranging from the online radicalisation of young men to the human cost of global warfare. The band, completed by bassist Don Doblados (the son of Filipino immigrants) and drummer Andrew Harms, draws heavily on an outsider perspective, with Irish-born Sisk having watched his adopted American home rapidly shift since relocating in 2017.

Across its eight tracks, Children balances fierce outrage with grief, utilising biting satire and dark observational humor. Notable tracks include ’37 Days’, which details the real-world detention of Palestinian paramedic Asaad al-Nasasra, and the prescient ‘Siege’, alongside the album’s concluding title track, which stands as a solemn elegy for the youth caught in the conflicts of Gaza and Ukraine.

‘Shit Breaks’ is available to stream now, with the full album available for pre-order ahead of its August arrival.
