Winona Fighter Are Back — And Bombs Away Is Exactly The Song 2026 Needed

Fresh off one of the most talked-about debut albums in punk last year, the Nashville trio are wasting absolutely no time.

There’s something to be said for a band that doesn’t ease you back in gently. Winona Fighter — Nashville’s most gloriously unfiltered punk trio — have returned with their first new music of 2026, and true to form, they’ve come in hot. Bombs Away, out now via Rise Records, is exactly what the name suggests: loud, confrontational, and completely uninterested in your comfort zone.

Frontwoman Coco Kinnon kept it simple when asked about the track: “Everybody needs a song right now.” Given the state of things, it’s hard to argue. Bombs Away arrives as a follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed debut album My Apologies To The Chef — a record that earned them coverage across Consequence, Rolling Stone, Kerrang!, NPR, the New Yorker and more, which is a pretty remarkable list for a debut. The album got a deluxe edition last autumn that added acoustic versions of every track, covers of Beastie Boys’ Sabotage and Violent Femmes’ Blister In The Sun, and a new song (Don’t Get) CLOSE. If you somehow missed it, now is a very good time to fix that.

Winona Fighter — Coco Kinnon on vocals and multi-instrumentalist duties, Dan Fuson on lead guitar, and Austin Luther on bass and production — formed after Coco relocated from Boston to Nashville, and have been making noise ever since their 2022 debut EP Father Figure. What makes them worth paying attention to isn’t just the aggression, though there’s plenty of that — it’s the intelligence and vulnerability sitting underneath it. My Apologies To The Chef is a record that bottles genuine anxiety and catharsis in equal measure, and Bombs Away suggests they’re not done pushing that further.

Catch Them Live

The band are performing at Welcome To Rockville, and this summer they join the idobi Radio Summer School Tour — a month-long run kicking off 19 June alongside Honey Revenge, South Arcade, Games We Play and Chase Petra. They’ll also be returning to Vans Warped Tour at the Long Beach and Mexico City dates. Full tour info at their website.
