Bloom release new single Tongue Tied featuring Mikaila Delgado ahead of sophomore album

Tongue Tied marks new territory for Bloom. The song begins with a stripped-back acoustic intro before swelling into a full-band crescendo, blending clean vocals with surging guitars and drums. The interplay between frontman Jono Hawkey and Delgado captures the tension of a relationship where words are left unsaid, pairing intimacy with urgency.

Sydney’s melodic hardcore outfit Bloom have returned with a new single, Tongue Tied, featuring Mikaila Delgado of *Yours Truly. The track comes ahead of their upcoming second album The Light We Chase, which is set for release on 31 October via Pure Noise Records.

Drummer Jack Van Vliet calls it the band’s “softest, cleanest song to date,” a reflection on the fear of speaking your mind and the risk of what honesty might expose.

The release is paired with a one-take video that plays more like a short film than a performance clip. It follows a couple in the aftermath of an argument, driving away from one another as the silence between them grows. As the distance widens, shadow-like silhouettes reveal the emotions beneath the surface, reaching across the divide in search of connection. It’s a stark, cinematic counterpart to the song’s themes of longing, fear, and unresolved tension.

The album The Light We Chase arrives at the end of October and finds Bloom expanding their sound with the help of producer Sam Bassal (Ocean Grove, Thornhill, Void of Vision). It is also their first full-length release with Pure Noise Records. Across eleven tracks, the band explore personal turmoil, trust, loss, and nostalgia, with features from Delgado, Jack Bergin of Void of Vision, and Patrick Miranda of Movements. From the crushing weight of Withered to the tenderness of Tongue Tied, the record showcases a band ready to take risks and push their sound further than before.

Since forming in Sydney in 2017, Bloom have built a reputation for emotionally charged live shows and open-veined songwriting. They have already shared stages with Silverstein, Polaris, Chelsea Grin, and Currents, played their first Japanese headline dates, and appeared at Good Things Festival. Their 2024 debut Maybe In Another Life was a conceptual work that set the tone for what was to come, but the new album positions them as one of the most exciting names in modern melodic hardcore.

Fans won’t have long to wait to see the new material live. Bloom will be touring the UK and EU with Thornhill and Ocean Grove starting on 17 October, before joining Silverstein, Thursday, and Free Throw on the “25 Years of Noise” North American tour later in the year.
