Megan Moroney Gets Bold on New Single ‘Wish I Didn’t’

Released with a glossy, action-packed video starring none other than Dylan Efron, this fiery country-pop anthem is Moroney at her most fun, flirty, and fearlessly self-aware.

Megan Moroney is not here to play it safe. With her brand new single “Wish I Didn’t,” she’s bolder, brassier, and catchier than ever, and the Cloud 9 era is officially on fire. Released with a glossy, action-packed video starring none other than Dylan Efron, this fiery country-pop anthem is Moroney at her most fun, flirty, and fearlessly self-aware.

“Wish I Didn’t” isn’t just another heartbreak track. It’s a warning wrapped in a banger, served with a wink and a raised eyebrow. Over bright guitar riffs and massive vocal layering, Moroney calls out a classic red flag situation: the kind of guy your friends warn you about, but you still find yourself falling for. Instead of playing the victim, though, she flips the script, because if this ends in tears, she’s already writing the next hit.

The lyrics are cheeky but sharp, with Moroney name-dropping her own history of heartbreak anthems as a not-so-subtle threat. “Stone cold killers have guns, but I’ve got songs” is the kind of line that lives in your head rent-free, and she knows it. It’s the kind of emotional intelligence country music has been thriving on lately, big feelings, bigger hooks, no apologies.

Produced by Kristian Bush, the track builds on the sonic momentum of her GOLD-certified sophomore record Am I Okay?, but dials the energy all the way up. It’s country-pop with a pulse, and it sounds like it’s built for both radio play and stadium singalongs. If this is just a taste of what’s to come on Cloud 9, the album’s about to be a monster.

The video? Icon behaviour. Directed by Lauren Dunn, the “Wish I Didn’t” visual is a full-on cinematic showdown, styled like a millennial update of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Moroney and Efron play married assassins caught in a high-stakes domestic standoff, complete with dinner-table fight scenes, spy gadgets, and enough Easter eggs to keep fans replaying. Throw in some Too Faced glam, pink smoke, and Megan’s signature sparkle, and you’ve got a music video that looks more like a streaming series pilot, and we’d absolutely binge it.

With Cloud 9 dropping February 20, anticipation is already sky-high. The album has landed Moroney on just about every “most anticipated” list you can name, including The New York Times, where she’s the only country artist mentioned alongside names like Robyn and Bruno Mars. That alone speaks volumes about the crossover energy she’s building, country roots, pop star reach.

It’s not just the music that’s making waves, either. Moroney’s about to hit the road with her Cloud 9 Tour, a 49-date international headline run that’s already sold hundreds of thousands of tickets. UK fans won’t have to wait long: she’ll hit London, Manchester, Glasgow (twice), and Belfast this September and October. These shows are set to be some of the biggest of her career, and given the trajectory she’s on, they might be the last time you see her in venues that aren’t full-blown arenas.

Cloud 9 will feature not only “Wish I Didn’t,” but also her chart-climbing singles “6 Months Later” and “Beautiful Things,” plus high-profile collaborations with Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves. It’s big-league stuff, and Moroney’s handling it with the confidence of someone who knows exactly who she is—and what she’s about to do.

From her “Emo Cowgirl” origins to her current status as one of country’s most exciting voices, Megan Moroney is rewriting the rules with every release. “Wish I Didn’t” is another glitter-dusted, gut-punching reminder: she’s not asking for space in the genre anymore. She’s taking it.
