The engines roared and the bass bumped as CarFest 2026 officially landed at its brand-new home, the iconic Silverstone Circuit, for the opening leg of the August Bank Holiday weekend. Combining high-octane trackside action with a powerhouse evening of live music, the Friday leg set a massive benchmark for the days ahead.
The main stage action kicked off on a deeply emotional note with The George Michael Singers. Dressed in crisp, matching white suits, the late icon’s former touring and studio backing vocalists put the focus purely on the music. Paying homage to their “dear boss and friend,” their soaring vocal harmonies brought George Michael’s classic repertoire back to life, giving the early trackside crowd an immediate surge of nostalgia.
Next up was pop queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who turned the Silverstone tarmac into an afternoon dancefloor. Adorned in pink sparkles and bringing her signature disco-pop charm, she effortlessly rattled through her catalogue. In one of the sweetest moments of the day, Ellis-Bextor reached down into the front row to grab a bubble wand from a young fan, filling the stage with floating bubbles as the crowd danced along.
As the late afternoon sun began to dip behind the grandstands, TV favorite turned DJ Gok Wan stepped up to take the energy to another level. Sporting a stylish Japanese-inspired outfit alongside custom graphics, Wan delivered a high-octane set packed with classic club and dance anthems. As dusk fell across the circuit, blinding strobe lights flooded out over the track, officially transforming the festival grounds from a family petrolhead haven into an open-air arena.
Taking the Friday headlining slot, global pop powerhouse Jessie J delivered a set marked by unbelievable vocal acrobatics and unfiltered personal banter. Opening up to the crowd right away, she revealed she was wearing a heart monitor following a doctor’s visit earlier that morning, laughing with the audience:
“I’m really going to go for it to see if I faint—no, not cool!”
Her performance quickly became an interactive dialogue with the front row. From promising to sign a fan’s hat after the show to teasing a teenage fan named Matthew for his minimal dancing effort (“Come on baby boy, shoulders back!”), Jessie had the entire arena laughing along. She paused the show to spontaneously lead the crowd in a tearful rendition of “Happy Birthday” for a 14-year-old fan, before getting everyone to stash their smartphones away so they could use both hands to clap during “Burnin’ Up.”
Dedicating “Nobody’s Perfect” to anyone navigating personal struggles—noting her own history as a cancer survivor, she delivered an electrifying vocal display. She ended the evening with an unbelievable display of raw talent, stepping away from her microphone entirely to belt out the final notes of her closing song acapella over a stunned, silent trackside.
