We genuinely don’t know where to start this week because there is a lot going on. But let’s be honest, there’s really only one place any of us have been looking, and that’s Olivia Rodrigo’s Instagram — or rather, where her Instagram used to be before she wiped it clean and sent the entire internet into a complete spiral.

Here’s what we know. Olivia planted padlocks in London, Los Angeles, New York and Paris. Fans decoded the clues in the time it takes to make a cup of tea and established that her new single is called ‘Drop Dead’ and it drops on April 17. Her third album — You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love — arrives June 12 via Geffen Records. Thirteen tracks. Dan Nigro producing again. “Sad love songs,” she told British Vogue. We are so ready.
But the detail everyone is absolutely losing it over is the padlock spotted next to Olivia’s in London, marked ‘S♡C’. Yes. THAT S♡C. Fans have been connecting dots at lightning speed — Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘House Tour’ video dropped this week (stunning, co-directed by Margaret Qualley, go watch it immediately) and people are convinced it’s full of visual Easter eggs that match Olivia’s Drop Dead promo. The gum. The spider. And then — oh and THEN — Amy Allen, one of Sabrina’s go-to collaborators, has a writing credit on Drop Dead. Neither of them is saying a word. Which is somehow making it worse. Or better. Depending on how you look at it.
For what it’s worth, Olivia told British Vogue last month that it’s “all love” with Sabrina. “I think she’s great. I’m so happy for all of her success. I love the album she’s put out. I’ve talked to her many times.” Sweet! Lovely! Also telling us absolutely nothing! We’re not saying a collab is coming. We’re just saying that if it is, the internet will genuinely not survive it.
Anyway. Other things also happened this week! Snoop Dogg dropped his 22nd studio album 10 Til’ Midnight — twenty-two albums, let that sink in — Teddy Swims is back with the brilliant new single ‘Mr. Know It All’, and the Foo Fighters also have new music out today, so your Friday playlist is sorted.
Last week was equally stacked if we’re being honest. Arlo Parks’ Ambiguous Desire is everything we hoped it would be. Dermot Kennedy delivered The Weight of the Woods and it’s huge. Thundercat dropped Distracted, Bon Iver gave us a gorgeous live collection, and OneRepublic reminded everyone they’re still very much here with the soaring ‘Need Your Love’. Central Cee also released All Roads Lead Home and it hasn’t left our speakers since.
In tour news, Noah Kahan is heading to Australia and New Zealand in September and October and the UK in November, for a full arena run, and he’s bringing the brilliant Michael Marcagi, Bella Kay, and Mon Rovia with him — if you’re over that way, tickets are going to go fast. Ruel announced his new single ‘Don’t Say That’ and confirmed his album Kicking & Screaming for June 12. And Cody Simpson’s comeback single ‘Baby Blue’ is genuinely one of the most joyful things we’ve heard all year. Welcome back, mate.
Right. April 17. ‘Drop Dead’. We’ll be here.
