“No Leniency”: Jennie’s Team Goes to War Over Fake Clips

BLACKPINK's Jennie is taking legal action after manipulated footage from her Summer Sonic performance spread online, as her agency vows a zero-tolerance response.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie is going after the people behind a wave of manipulated footage from her recent festival appearance, with her agency confirming a full-scale Jennie legal action this week that leaves no room for negotiation.

The trouble started after Jennie’s performance at Summer Sonic 2026 at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba, Japan, on 14 August. Clips began doing the rounds online appearing to show a wardrobe mishap during the set, but almost immediately fans and commentators started questioning whether the footage was genuine or had been digitally altered. Two days later, a separate and unrelated microphone issue during her Osaka show added more fuel to an already messy online narrative.

On 18 August, Jennie’s own agency, OA Entertainment, which she founded in 2023 after leaving YG Entertainment, issued a firm statement addressing what it called “ongoing misconduct” targeting the singer across social media and online communities. The company confirmed it is pursuing both civil and criminal legal action against those responsible for editing or manipulating footage, spreading false claims, and repeatedly circulating clips alongside insulting captions. “There will be no settlement or leniency under any circumstances during this process,” the agency said, adding that it’s already working with legal counsel to gather evidence and is encouraging fans to flag suspicious posts.

It’s a case that speaks to a much bigger problem hitting K-pop and the wider entertainment industry: the sheer speed and scale at which manipulated video content, genuine deepfakes or otherwise, can spread before anyone gets a chance to establish what actually happened. Reported deepfake cases in South Korea have risen sharply in recent years, and high-profile artists like Jennie are increasingly finding themselves at the centre of exactly this kind of controversy.

Whatever the full facts of what happened on stage in Chiba, this Jennie legal action sends a clear signal that agencies are no longer willing to let manipulated content circulate unchallenged.
