BBC Introducing has confirmed the return of its LIVE events series with a month-long run of shows across ten UK cities this November, in what the broadcaster is calling its biggest year yet. The BBC Introducing LIVE announcement lands a few weeks after the scheme’s stage at Reading & Leeds was axed after eighteen years, and the timing feels pointed, a reminder that support for emerging talent hasn’t gone away, even if one of its most visible platforms has.
The events themselves span Belfast, Bridgend, Gateshead, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Sunderland, kicking off on 5 November with simultaneous shows in Bridgend and London and wrapping up with four separate showcases in Leeds on 28 November. Beyond the performances, the programme includes workshops, educational panels, open mic sessions and networking opportunities, positioning BBC Introducing LIVE as much as a development pipeline as a gig series.
BBC Introducing editor Kelly Betts framed the initiative as central to the scheme’s whole mission, saying that “championing and nurturing artists and creatives is at the heart of everything BBC Introducing does,” and that this year’s run marks a deliberate step up in ambition. Festival Republic, meanwhile, has previously described the decision to drop the Reading & Leeds stage as an attempt to “support a more diverse range of up-and-coming artists” through other channels, a framing BBC Introducing LIVE now gives some concrete shape to.
